Donald Hamilton Fraser
Donald Hamilton Fraser was one of the most distinctive landscape artists of the 20th Century. He studied at St Martin’s School of Art after the war and then tutored at the Royal Academy for 25 years. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1985.
He felt a great affinity to Scotland where some of his best work was done. His landscapes are defined by their heavy use of gouache and his bright vibrant colours.
In a totally different way Fraser painted wonderful chalk and wash drawing of dancers. He had a lifetime long fascination for classical ballet and this comes through in his sensitive drawings.
His work are in many public collections both in the UK and abroad as well as in HM the Queen’s own collection
