Sir Kyffin Williams

Sir Kyffin Williams 1918 -2006. Williams was a welsh landscape painter who lived at Pwllfanogl, Llanfairproll on island of Anglesey. He was educated at Shrewsbury School before joining the Welsh Fusilies as and officer in 1937. He failed a medical examination due to epilepsy and decided to become an artist. He went on to become one of Wales’ most prolific artist. Williams studied at the Slade School of Art and went on to teach art at Highgate School from 1944 – 1973.Among others he taught Anthony Green and Patrick Procktor. In 1968. He won a scholarship to study and paint in Patagonia. His work typically drew inspiration from the welsh farmland and landscape.He was President of the Royal Cambrian Academy and was elected a member of the Royal Academy in 1975. He was awarded an OBE for his services to art in 1982 and was knighted in 1999.
